As part of the activities commemorating the centenary of Eduardo Chillida's birth, the Alcobendas Art Centre is presenting an exhibition that approaches the sculptor's work from a specific paradigm: that of poetry, which, in constant tension with the notion of construction, sustained his work.
Poetry was one of Chillida's essential schemes when it came to approaching his plastic discourse, a sort of framework for thought and action. His work is full of paradoxes and tensions: between lightness and weight, hollowness and emptiness, matter and space, black and white, explicitness and polysemy. One of these paradoxes is revealed in his relationship with the written text, with verbal signs, that is, with words.
Curated by Carlos Martín, this exhibition, in the form of a carefully selected anthology, aims to bring Chillida's discourse closer to new audiences and to reencounter those who are already familiar with his discourse.
