Sucesión Chillida

This website is devoted to the figure, work, and thinking of Eduardo Chillida. Additionally, it aims to provide basic contact information about the Sucesión Chillida - the Artist's estate: its activity, functions and the services it provides.

The Sucesión Chillida is comprised of the rightsholders of the late artist Eduardo Chillida, the sole beneficiaries of the intellectual property rights of his work. One of its duties is to ensure the integrity of the work and the figure of Eduardo Chillida by preventing any imitation or fragmentation of this work; or other fraudulent uses.

This website and its content, owned by the Sucesión Chillida, are governed by Spanish law and by national and international legislation on intellectual and industrial property.
 

The Fundación Eduardo Chillida y Pilar Belzunce is a non-profit organisation whose primary purpose is that of studying and spreading awareness of the figure, work, and thinking of Eduardo Chillida Juantegui. The foundation performs its activities locally, within the space created by the artist himself around the Zabalaga country house in Hernani, as well as at a national and international level. For the realisation of such aims, it utilises the space, archive, and works loaned by the Sucesión Chillida – the artist’s estate.

Among these courses of action, the foundation is particularly active in the stewardship and promotion of Chillida-Leku, the artist’s museum. It collaborates in the dissemination of its exhibition programme and social and educational activities within and without the museum through courses, seminars, and conferences. Another focal aspect of the foundation is the development and support of research projects – whether archive-based, such as the Chillida Catalogue Raisonné of Sculpture, or relating to the conservation of artists’ legacies.

Since 2017, the prestigious gallery Hauser & Wirth has been the exclusive worldwide representative of Eduardo Chillida's legacy. The Estate of Eduardo Chillida and Hauser & Wirth work closely in its configuration, conservation and safeguarding.

Additionally, with the support and guidance of Hauser & Wirth, Chillida Leku reopened in 2019 for the general public, as a vital resource to experience and learn about Eduardo Chillida's work.

In order to reproduce, distribute, or share the artist’s work publicly, it will be necessary to obtain the appropriate license beforehand from the rights management agency which represents it -VEGAP. The conditions set by the Succession will also need to be met for every use, as mediated through VEGAP. 

VEGAP (Visual Entidad de Gestión de Artistas Plásticos) is a non-profit organisation that represents more than one hundred thousand authors from all over the world in Spain. The organisation was created in 1990 by a group of Spanish artists to collectively manage their author´s rights pursuant to the Intellectual Property Law. That same year, VEGAP became a full member of CISAC, joining a network of societies representing visual artists from forty different countries. VEGAP has signed reciprocal representation contracts with thirty-nine collective management societies from other countries. This means that the author´s rights of VEGAP members are managed not only in EU countries but also in countries from other continents such as Argentina, Brazil, Canada, United States, Mexico, Australia, Korea and Japan, among others. VEGAP is the organisation that manages the author´s rights of painters, sculptors, photographers, illustrators, designers, video artists, net artists and architects… the visual creators.
