Chillida: answer and question

With this exhibition, the Asturias Museum of Fine Arts is commemorating the centenary of the birth of Eduardo Chillida (San Sebastian, 1924-2002), one of the leading sculptors of the second half of the 20th century. It brings together nine sculptures and fifty engravings from leading institutional and private collections, offering a broad view of a career based on the constant formulation of questions about space and its limits.

The group of sculptures ranges from the first iron works of the 1950s, among which the expressive and vibrant forms of the ‘anvils of dreams’ stand out, to the sober and forceful production of the 1970s and 1980s, whose main exponents are the spatial investigations in steel and the terracotta blocks of the ‘lurrak’.
