Eduardo Chillida Juantegui was born on 10 January in San Sebastian. His parents, Pedro Chillida Aramburu, in the military, and Carmen Juantegui Eguren, live in the Plaza de Zaragoza. 

The couple had three children: Eduardo, Gonzalo, and Ignacio. Their grandmother, Juana Eguren Jáuregui, was the owner and manager of the Hotel Biarritz, right next to the family home.

Eduardo first attended the local Marianist School and then the Academia Malaxechevarría. He later studied freely to obtain his Baccalaureate in Valladolid.
